Selachimorphan Sprucing Mini-Event!

Lyara’s Blessings event announcement banner
Every year in the beginning of summer, underwater Lythians from the realm of Reenah celebrate a tradition passed down for many generations; the Selachimorphan Sprucing! Each Lythian holds a feast to gather sharks to their home, and while they’re eating, they paint them with water-safe, natural dyes. Certain species take better to the paints, and if you get it just right, the shark’s dyed scales can last through the year. Due to the sharks’ skin texture, the paint stays on them for the whole month. Lythians above water watch in awe once the fish are released, and the ocean lights up with an array of proud, shining hues. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to befriend one of these colorful friends!

✦ Selachimorphan Sprucing Prompts

With the help of a helpful guide, anyone can visit Reenah for the festivities and establish a key there to travel in the future as well! With that in mind...

Reenah is almost-entirely made of fluids: air and water. Moving through the realm always feels like swimming, which allows even those without flying capabilities to float through its atmosphere. Overall, it’s composed of large bodies of water with never-ending streams that run downward, either into another watery island or just… down.
The gorgeous structures of Reenah are made of colorful sea glass, polished coral, and other aquatic constructs. These buildings are located all throughout the realm, on its small pieces of land and more commonly submerged with portions touching the open air.

✦ Reenah? Where is that?

Guides are appearing across the realms to help bring new visitors to Reenah who may not have yet established their keys there.
Tell us about your Lythian preparing to travel to Reenah, or just arriving.

✦ Shark Painting

The sharks are here!
Is your Lythian helping to paint them? Or just enjoying the colorful display in Reenah's waters?

✦ Show Your Pride

The residents of Reenah also encourage visitors to display their pride in other ways this time of year.
Does your Lythian display a flag? Wear pride clothing? Perhaps they choose to simply display the rainbow of colors!

✦ Requirements
Your piece must earn you at least 20 Loonoles by Free Play guidelines.
This means you can choose what elements you’d like to include per submission.
There is no submission limit, so you can complete each prompt as many times as you'd like!
Submit them via the ARPG submit form under "Event Prompt."
They must be turned in by July 9th, 2020 @ 23:59:59 EDT to be eligible for rewards!

✦ Rewards
Completing at least one prompt gives you the "Selachimorphan Sprucing 2021" achievement!
You will also earn a level 0 familiarity key to Reenah with any Lythians that complete at least one prompt.
This key is permanent and unlocks the realm's regular quests to be taken on at any time.

As always, you earn Loonoles based on the piece(s) you submit.
Remember to claim the bonus + 5 (Event Quest) Loonoles!

✦ Shark Friends

In proper Lubina fashion, our friendly neighborhood pet shop has set up during the event as well and is offering a variety of shark friends to keep and care for year-round.

These sharks are permanent new additions to the Igroven Pet Shop!

Jin's Speech, Layout and Cash Shop Updates

It's been a long span of time of collecting and decorating meecebait. You don't know what Jin's planning but it's certainly...something. Although he's already explained what he's doing, he never bothered explaining why he's doing it. Any questions about this topic are met with eccentric responses that frankly, don't make much sense. Nonetheless, he's gotten quite the number of helpers and it appears to all be coming together.

"Are you done with that one?"

You look up and it's Jin. They're looking at you — specifically the meecebait you're holding — over their spectacles, bushy tails twitching excitedly. It's basically done, so you hand it over to them. They accept it with a grateful nod before hurrying away, muttering under their breath. You watch as they go to their creation and carefully add your contribution to it.

Oh yea, so Jin's been taking everyone's art projects and decorating a giant altar with them. It's quite the grand sight, decorated with rocks, gems, light orbs, meecebait, and many many plants. You don't know where he got all the plants from but the altar is adorned with a wide variety, ranging from common grasses to exquisite flowers. They dominate most of the altar, but everyone's meecebait designs are nestled sporadically among the flora.

You wonder what it's all leading up to…

"Oh, oh, it's starting!" Jin suddenly exclaims, bouncing up and down excitedly, "Everyone, look, look, LISTEN!"

Per his request, you perk up your ears and focus. You don't hear anything at first but then soft squeaking fills the air. It comes in waves, gradually increasing in volume. Curiously, it seems to be echoing all around you, so you swivel your head around to scan for the source. Your eyes immediately spy lots of movement among the tall grass. What are— meeces?!

Sure enough, meeces start popping out of the foliage everywhere, delighting some Lythians while startling others. One even pops up right next to you, glances up at you, before skittering away. The meecebait is definitely working, because all of them are running towards the altar, chittering away as they study the egg-shaped objects.

Well, the meeces are what?

The return of meeces is certainly a sight to see; Jin had been going on about how it's been a long time since they'd made their appearance but never bothered to explain their importance. You appreciate the spectacle but something else has got to happen at some point, right?

Suddenly, you feel the hair on the back of your neck prickle and an energy rushes through you. It's a feeling that every Lythian knows, no matter how attuned or not attuned to it they are: magic. From the altar, where all the meece have now gathered, you see their beady red eyes glow white, as a surge of energy ripples through the air around you. The magic is warm, hopeful, and invigorating, so you easily categorize it as growth magic. And, as if on cue, all the grasses, flowers, greenery, all types of flora start growing, blooming, revitalizing…

The feeling of Lyth in spring.

Jin's shouting brings you out of your remembrance and you turn your attention back on him. He's kneeling amidst all the flora he'd collected for the altar and something curious is happening. Cradled in his hands is a small, golden leaf, that's glowing with a bright aura. It floats up and away from his palm, suspended in the air, before exploding into rays of light. In the blink of an eye, the leaf is no longer floating; instead, it's resting atop a furry head, framed by two large, pointed ears.

It's another of Jin's species!

"Ostavera worked, it worked, it all worked!" Jin cries, as the vulpines embrace. You can hear the clear, unadulterated joy in his voice as he exclaims, "Welcome back, everyone!" As one by one, each piece of flora on the altar begins to burst into life, each Kikitsu awakening from their deep slumbers.

Thanks to everyone's help with decorating meecebait, creating altars, and observing Ostavera, Jin was able to successfully revive the Kikitsu species! Because spring had been away for so long, many Kikitsu ran out of growth magic — the source of their energy — and fell into hibernation.

Jin was the last of his species for a long time — but no longer.

Thank you again for partaking in our Ostavera event and contributing to this wonderful community!

"Drip. Drip. Drip. It was evening, sun still barely above the horizon, when the clouds rolled in. Thick and all-consuming and dark. It was hard to tell through the forest canopy, but it would be harder not to notice the light dim. Rainclouds. Enough of them to cover the sky. No, Minti had a feeling that though the rain had just started, it wasn’t going to be stopping any time soon."

Meeces, Kikitsu, and Forum Updates!

Ostavera Observance has ended! It seems Jin may be preparing some end-of-holiday notes...

Meecebait Design Winners!

Four Meecebait contest winners were chosen by the community via popular vote, and these have been turned into sticker items!

From left to right, these designs were submitted by Traveler, omeenoms, Raishiteru, and PrincePoke! Each individual has received a copy of their sticker, and all four designs have been temporarily added to Faelyn's shop.

Thanks to your efforts, Lubina has found two more varieties of Meece and is offering them in her shop for a limited time.

The White Clover Meece and Forget-Me-Not Meece are now both temporarily available in the Igroven Pet Shop, and the other Meeces' stay has been extended as well.

All aforementioned shop stock (stickers and Meece) will be available until June 4 at 23:59:59 Eastern Time. They will then go away until the appropriate season rolls back around.

Species information for Kikitsu has been added to the Playable Species list. They may now be created with MYO Tickets!

Additionally, we will be holding a guest artist event for these where temporary guest artists will be chosen to make and sell/distribute Kikitsu designs! Please sign up here if you are interested! Sign ups end June 4th, 2021 at 23:59:59 and the deadline for chosen designers to complete their designs is June 18th, 2020.

Last, but not least, we are excited to announce the soft launch of our forum system! This has also been added to the navigation under Community -> Forum. Please read up on the rules for each forum category, and then please feel free to participate! We will be working on improvements and updates to this system as we move forward, but are excited to now offer this new community feature.

Today is the last day to turn in Ostavera Observance prompts for rewards, as well as to vote for your favorite Meecebait submission(s)! The deadline for these activities is 23:59:59 Eastern Time of May 21, 2021.

Rewards for cumulative prompt completion will be sent out this coming week!

In other news, two new features are now available...

Birthday Gifts

We previously added rewards for visiting the user list on a staff member's birthday. Now, you will also receive a special gift when visiting on your birthday! In order to receive a gift, please make sure you have entered a birthday via the profile edit page (accessible via Personal -> Account Settings ->Edit Profile). Once entered, this cannot be changed on your own, but if you made a mistake, please send a ticket and we can fix it for you!

After you have entered your birth date information, remember to visit the user list on that day and you will receive a pet themed after your indicated birth month, and one random additional pet. (Patreon supporters will also receive one bonus random pet on their birthday!)

LIMITED TIME: If your birthday in 2021 occurred prior to May 21, please send us a ticket letting us know and we will manually send you that month's pet rewards (you must also make sure to set your birthday in your account settings). However, to take advantage of this, you must send in the ticket by June 4, 2021 at 23:59:59 Eastern Time.

Better Art Submission Attribution

You may now attribute art/writing submissions to an individual who is not yourself. Going forward, you can do this when submitting the work via the ARPG submit form. For existing works with incorrect attribution (in the case where you submitted a piece you commissioned and received from someone else, for example), please send us a ticket telling us the artwork/writing and correct creator and we can manually fix these!

Other Updates

We have removed the "Chibi Art" categorization from ARPG valuation and the calculator.
